Valdor parked the ground vehicle and waited a moment for the Primarchs to exit. They were outside a somewhat decrepit building. It was being used by a group of archaeology students as a haunted house. They were using it as a fundraiser and joint event with a group of theater students.
They had invited the Emperor to bring the Primarchs as they hoped it would attract people to the haunted house. He had agreed, but was unable to take the Primarchs due to scheduling issues. It was a similar thing for Malcador, which was why Valdor had them. They approached the front of the building, and were greeted by a man dressed up as a blood-stained chirurgeon.
"Welcome, honored guests," the man said dramatically. "You wish to enter the house of mystery and horror. I will be your guide."
With that, he waved them into the building, making sure to get everyone in before closing the door. He quickly made his way back to the front of the group. "Do not mind the screams, you are not our only guests at the moment."
The first room of the tour was empty, save for pictures arranged around the walls. The eyes of the people in the paintings were moving, tracking the Primarchs as they made their way through. As they went to exit the room, the two paintings on either side reached out to grab at the leading Primarchs.
The Lion hardly reacted, he had known that all of the "paintings" had been people. Valdor had to grab Angron so he wouldn't attack the person who had tried to grab him. The "paintings" quickly stepped back, allowing the group through.
Fulgrim chose to over-react a bit as they continued through. Perturabo occasionally got distracted enough that someone startled him. Jaghatai got excited when he saw Oriental themes in rooms. Leman thought the entire thing was hilarious.
Rogal didn't understand the point of a haunted house, but always laughed a bit when Perturabo got startled. Konrad would reverse-scare some of the people putting on the haunted house. Valdor kept having to check to ensure that Konrad hadn't joined a display.
Sanguinius would sometimes gasp in shock when he felt it was appropriate. One room involved spraying blood and he had been a bit startled by that one. Ferrus was too distracted by Fulgrim's reactions to interact much with the displays. Valdor was still holding Angron's hand so that he couldn't beat people up.
Roboute and Alpharius had a competition to see who could figure out how things worked faster. Mortarion was fine until they were feeling "body parts". He nearly pulled out the "human eye" to eat it.
"Mortarion," Valdor said in a warning voice.
"Sorry," Mortarion said and drew his hand out of the box.
Magnus was enjoying it, much like Jaghatai was. Horus wasn't reacting very often, but occasionally would do something. Lorgar was keeping close to Valdor, partly because several of the things startled him. Valdor did have to enlist the help of other Primarchs to physically drag Lorgar from the room with cult symbols painted on all of the walls and the floor. Vulkan was having an issue where he would accidentally reverse-scare people. Corvus took on the job of comforting Vulkan, and making sure that he didn't chase people to apologize.
"I don't mean to scare them though," Vulkan said sadly.
"I know," Corvus said. "It's alright, we can try and pull all of them together so you can apologize."
Their guide paused before taking them into the next room. There were several screams from the room. The Primarchs waited patiently, understanding that they had caught up to the other group mentioned earlier.
The door between the rooms opened of its own accord. Their guide looked a bit confused by that. So far, he had opened the doors between the rooms himself. A strange apparition came into the room they were in. Valdor moved to the front of the group, the Primarchs gathering behind him. The guide also dipped behind the Custodian, clearly scared.
"This isn't part of the tour," he said quietly. Valdor prepared to fight the apparition.
"Wait, Valdor," Magnus said, stepping forward. "That's a psychic projection."
"A what?" the guide asked.
"A psychic projection," Magnus explained. "It's not truly real."
"But it can be dangerous," Valdor said.
"True," Magnus admitted. "Though this one isn't. The one creating it is young. They haven't made it solid enough to hurt anyone."
"A vision," Valdor said, still watching it warily.
"Yes," Magnus said. "The one casting it is in the other room."
Another guide came in the room, looking terrified. The Primarchs could see the other group, including two young boys who were clearly the source of the psychic apparition. There were a pair of adults who appeared to be the parents of the boys. They were pressed into the corner of the room, the mother reaching out to her sons.
"Someone needs to help them," Corvus said, recognizing that the boys were scared. "Maybe get their mother to them?"
"I can do it," Magnus said. With that, he lept into the room, darting through the uncontrolled psychic energy towards the woman in the room. He made a kine shield to protect the two of them.
"I'm here to help," Magnus said to the woman once he reached her. He held out his hand to her.
"Thank you," the woman said taking his hand. The two moved together towards the boys. Both were frightened, tears streaming down their faces. The mother reached towards the closest of them, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Ohrmuzd," she said. "Ahzek, it's alright. I'm here."
"Mother?" one of the boys said. "I'm scared."
"It's alright, Ohrmuzd," she repeated. "There's nothing here that can hurt you. There's another child here."
The psychic energy abated, and finally died. The two boys looked up apologetically at their mother. Magnus looked towards Valdor and his brothers, waving them to stay back. Several of the Primarchs had moved in front of Valdor again.
"I'm Magnus," Magnus introduced himself. "I'm a psyker too, are both of you psykers?"
"Yes," said the first boy. "I'm Ohrmuzd. This is my twin brother Ahzek."
"It's nice to meet you," Magnus said.
"Sorry for getting so scared," Ahzek said. "We kind of ruined this room at least for you."
"It's alright," Magnus said.
"Really?" Ahzek asked.
"Yeah," Magnus said. "I'm not easily scared."
"What about the rest of the group with you?" Ohrmuzd asked.
"They're my brothers," Magnus said. "They don't really get scared either."
"Who's the giant with you?" Ahzek asked, intruiged.
"That's Valdor," Magnus admitted. "Of the Custodians."
"Constantin Valdor?" Ohrmuzd asked, clearly surprised.
"Yes," Magnus said. "I'm the fifteenth Primarch, a son of the Emperor."
There was a pause as all three dropped to their knees. Magnus felt distinctly awkward, he then had a better understanding of why his father didn't like these displays.
"Please, stand up," Magnus said. "There is no need of this."
"If that is your wish," the mother said, rising and gesturing for her sons to rise as well.
"I think it would be best if we left," the father said, approaching the group in the middle of the room.
"I agree," the mother said. "Let's go, Ahzek, Ohrmuzd."
"Yes, Mother," the two boys said quietly. "It was very nice to meet you, Lord Magnus."
"Just Magnus," Magnus insisted. "It was nice to meet you too."

*******************************
The Primarchs and Valdor helped reset the room for other groups who had entered the house behind them. Konrad even had a few suggestions to make it scarier than it was already. The students putting on the event were quite happy with the suggestions from him and construction tips from Rogal.
"Alright," Valdor said. "Are we finishing this tour?"
"Yes!" the Primarchs chorused. Even Rogal had found something to like about the haunted house. Valdor nodded and turned towards their guide.
"We shall continue on our way then," the guide said, having regained his composure.
The rest of the tour was rather short. Ahzek and Ohrmuzd had almost made it through before the scares had gotten to them. Magnus paid particular attention. He wanted to be able to describe it in detail. His plan was to find the twins again and offer to tell them the parts they missed. He also wanted to extend an offer to try out for the Thousand Sons. His legion was going to be recruiting soon, and with the two being psykers already, he thought they would do well in his Legion.
"Well, that was a bit scarier than was intended," Konrad said as they headed back to the ground car.
"It wasn't completely their fault though," Sanguinius. "Either the students putting on the haunted house or the twins."
"Indeed," Magnus said. "It's easy for psychic powers to escape someone's control. It's why the Librarius is so important to the Legions. It teaches control in many situations."
"But it's also a major part of what Malcador is always warning us about," Jaghatai said. "How the warp is full of dangerous temptations."
"True," Magnus admitted.
"Lord Magnus!" it was the twin boys. Magnus turned towards them, Valdor and the other Primarchs waited to the side.
"Hello again," Magnus said.
"We wanted to thank you again for helping us," Ohrmuzd said.
"There's no need for that," Magnus said gently.
"We also wanted to know if there was any way we could repay you," Ahzek said.
Magnus thought about it a moment before replying. "My Legion, the Thousand Sons, will be doing a recruitment here on Terra soon. If you are Terrans you could try out."
"How would that be repaying you?" Ohrmuzd asked, perplexed.
"By letting me seeing you grow more into your powers," Magnus said. "It would also give you a place among others like you. There are many psykers in the Thousand Sons."
"We could try it," Ahzek said, he was starting to get excited. Ohrmuzd mulled it over a moment, and then nodded. He was also getting excited.
"Ahzek, Ohrmuzd!" the twins' father called from their ground vehicle. "Time to go!"
"We'll tell our parents what you told us, Lord Magnus," Ahzek said. "Thank you!"
"Hopefully we'll meet again soon," Magnus said. The twins turned and trotted back to their parents.
"What was that about?" Jaghatai asked when Magnus rejoined them.
"They were offering to find a way to repay me for helping them," Magnus said. "I told them about the Thousand Sons recruitment that's coming up."
"That was a kind offer," Valdor said.
So Tsagualsa was just Konrad's attempt to build the perfect haunted house ...?
ReplyDeleteYes, yes it was :D
